Shocked by son’s suicide over bike
By FARIK ZOLKEPLI
PONTIAN: Jamari Waris is still in a state of shock over why his only child Muhamad Faiz Abdul Aziz would hang himself when all he told him to do was wash his motorcycle.
Relating the incident, Jamari, 48, a farmer, said he wanted Muhamad Faiz, 13, to clean his motorcycle on Sunday as he had to go to school the next day.
“He washed the motorcycle without any complaint. We are shocked he did such a thing (hang himself).
“My wife and I loved him very much,” he said, adding that Muhamad Faiz, who suffered from asthma, was adopted.
On Sunday night, the teenager was found dead in the bathroom by his mother. He had tied a rope to a railing and hanged himself.
The boy was rushed to the Pontian Hospital but died at about 2am on Monday.
Earlier that evening, Muhamad Faiz had gone on a joy ride to Benut on his motorcycle and was apparently scolded by his father when he returned. He then went to take a shower.
Suspecting something amiss, his mother went to check on him after 10 minutes, only to discover that he had hanged himself.
Jamari, whose own son had died during childbirth many years ago, said the suicide was difficult for his family to accept, especially for his wife.
